- Momentary Action: Unlike a standard light switch which latches in the on or off position, a bell push switch is spring-loaded and provides a temporary connection (normally open) only while physical pressure is applied.
- Circuit Function: When the button is pushed, it allows current to flow through the connected circuit, activating an electromagnet in the bell mechanism which in turn causes a hammer to strike a gong or trigger an electronic sounder. Releasing the button breaks the circuit.
- Safety and Efficiency: The momentary design prevents continuous power flow, which in older electromagnetic bells could cause the unit to overheat or burn out if the switch were to get stuck.
